I was commissioned to create the cover art for The Legend's Cookbook, a collection of recipes inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The client wanted a watercolor painted illustration of several foods featured in the book, so I took
Wish I had more ineteresting pics of the process but oh well. Talk about its construction. Talk about what direction you were given. What kind of reasearch did you do?
It was great fun to also work on several spot illustrations for the interior of the book. These were meant to illustrate cooking techniques that are too complex to describe well via text alone. I chose a limited palette and textured line reminiscent of my favorite mid-century household cookbooks.

A brainstorming session and thumbnail sketches with the client led to the creation of this watercolor painting depicting the characters of Earthbound having a picnic in Eagleland Onett and features many of the strange sounding foods that were mentioned in the game but never explicitly shown. It left a lot to the imagination!
The cookbook was originally crowdfunded by fans of the Mother video game series, known as Earthbound in the States. It first offered a hardbound book, and today it is
available for PDF download via Fangamer.com. It showcases recipes inspired by Mother and flavorful articles--a delight for retro gaming fans!
Fans of Yoshi's Island will immediately recognize this funny looking dog. It's Poochy, Yoshi's faithful friend! This watercolor artwork was used by Fangamer.com as a postcard freebie included with customer purchases.
Garfield's Crossing is a horror anthology for short stories penned by multiple authors that uses illustrations to enrich the audience experience. I created seven total illustrations include a map of the fictitious USA town, Garfield's Crossing, and six story illustrations.
For each illustration, I was given a rough script and brainstormed with the client. Sketches were submitted before one was chosen to take to final, and each were completed in Procreate. This kind of assignment is always engaging to my imagination!
